Kiniro Mosaic

The story begins with Oomiya Shinobu, seemingly a pure Japanese girl who did a homestay in Great Britain. Being there, she met Alice Cartelet, the daughter of the family who hosted Shinobu.

Shinobu is facinated with Alice's blond hair ans she totally fall in love for overseas countries.

Even after coming back to Japan, a few years later, Shinobu still misses her time overseas. One day, an airmail letter arrives from Alice, and that's the beginning of the story. This time, Alice does a trip visit to Japan to stay and live on Shinobu's house (which is not a typical japanese but english house).

Alice has strong over friendly feelings towards Shinobu and we can see a sweet and cute friendship develops.

From there, we see that Alice goes to the same school as Shinobu. Its in the same classroom, and has the same english teacher (It looks like its the only course they have in the school).

Alice quicky become friend of Shinobu's classmates: Yuoko, a very energetic and high spirited school girl, and Aya, a more passive and serious girl who is always having thoughts of Youko.

Later, a friend of Alice from Great Britain also joins the party in Japan: Karen Kujou. She has been Alice's friend since childhood and is always travelling because of her parents. She decided to go to Japan since Alice is there (and for another wrong reason) and learned japanese because her father is japanese.

Now that the gang is complete, we see in each episode, a slice of school life with the girls and her english teacher. They spend the hole year going to school, going to japanese and school festivals, and on vacations on the mountain.

But not everything is a party, because they also have to study for their english exams and have homework to do.

Because of Shinobu's fascination for everything outside Japan, she likes to wear not so typical japanese costumes and she has an older sister who is a young fashion model but she is more into photography than modelling.

Kiniro Mosaic, is a slice-life anime that show us how colorful and mosaic school life can be, on the other hand, has the right combination of "cute", light-hearted humor, moe exploitation, with just a dash of yuri undertone. The characters are easily recognizable and lovable. The interactions feel natural (at least in a comedic context). The background music fits each scene perfectly, without distracting from the overall enjoyment. The art is simple but effective.
